What is End-to-end encryption ?

End-to-end encryption (E2EE) is a method of secure communication that prevents unauthorized parties from accessing data while it’s transferred from one end system to another. In E2EE, the data is encrypted on the sender’s system or device and only the recipient is able to decrypt it. No intermediary, be it a server, an application service provider, or any other entity, can decrypt the data while it’s in transit or in their storage.

Here’s why E2EE is important:

  • Privacy: E2EE ensures that conversations, files, and data remain private between the sender and the recipient.
  • Security: It protects data from being intercepted by hackers during transmission.
  • Integrity: E2EE helps in maintaining the integrity of the data, ensuring that it has not been altered during transit.

E2EE is widely used in messaging apps like Signal, and in various forms of digital communication where confidentiality is crucial. It’s also an important feature in cloud storage services, like Sync.com, to protect the privacy of stored data.
